Being Prepared To Learn - Whakaritea Kia Ako

To succeed in your studies, you need to be prepared to learn. To do this, you need to consider the following:

  1. Are you coming to class in the right headspace?
  2. Do you have all the stationery you will need in lesson?
  3. Do you have your laptop (BYOD)?

The right headspace

It is important that you develop the skills to manage how you are feeling and responding to challenges throughout the school day. As your timetable will have a variety of different subjects it is very important that you start each class afresh. If you had a bad lesson, put that behind you and go to the next lesson aiming to be the best you can be. If you had issues outside of class, e.g. with friends or other students put that out of your head. Take a few deep breaths and move on.

If you have break time or lunchtime, you can use the time to relax and reset. Sometimes, however, it is difficult to move on. Remember, you can speak to your whānau teacher or the class teacher to get support. You can also see the school counsellor for support.

Stationery for learning

At MBC you will be using your laptop for the majority of classes. This does not mean that you do not need other stationery - you will be handwriting tasks at different points. For this, you will need to bring:

  • A couple of blue or black ink pens
  • A couple of pencils,
  • A ruler
  • An eraser
  • A glue stick.

In addition, there are some additional resources you will need to bring to specific classes.
