NCEA L2 Mathematics for Engineering and Science A

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Thornley

A specialised Mathematics course designed to prepare students for careers in Engineering or Science covering; Graphical Methods, Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry.

A strong work ethic and a commitment to between two and three hours of independent study every week are required for success in this course. 

The following pathways are available;

MCI2A + MCI2B = NCEA L2 Mathematics for Commerce, Business, Trade and Industry which leads to NCEA L3 Mathematics for Trade and Industry or NCEA L3 Mathematics for Commerce and Business.

MES2A + MES2B = NCEA L2 Mathematics for Engineering and Science which leads to NCEA Level three Mathematics for Engineering and Science.

MCI2A + MSP2B = NCEA L2 Mathematics for Statistics and Probability which leads to NCEA Level Three Mathematics for Statistics and Probability.

Any other combination of A and B = NCEA L2 Mathematics for Trade and Industry which leads to NCEA L3 Mathematics for Trade and Industry.

Recommended Prior Learning

Students need to have NCEA L1 Numeracy and have Achieved in AS91027 (1.2) - Algebraic Methods and either AS91031 (1.6) - Geometric Reasoning or AS91028 (1.3) - Tables, equations and graphs for consideration. Places may be limited in which case results will be ranked and places allocated on that basis.

Ruler
1J5 5mm quad book (about three for the year)
Scientific calculator
Graphics calculator may be beneficial.
A textbook will be issued to the student for the year. It is the student's responsibility and must be returned in good condition at the end of the year.
Additional resources are available for an additional charge, these are not compulsory.
Students are to bring all equipment to every lesson.
