Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Students require Curriculum Level 5P in Number and Measurement for entry to this course.

In order to achieve success at NCEA L1 (curriculum level 6) students need to be present for more than 85% of classes, actively engaged during every lesson and complete between one and two hours of independent study every week. Students aiming for Merit or Excellence may have to do more work outside of class.



The NCEA L1 Mathematics course is designed to give students a broad general mathematics base and covers the complete level six curriculum. Students wishing to continue with NCEA level two must meet the following prerequisites; 

L2 Mathematics - achieve 10 credits including AS91945. 

L2 Statistics - achieve 10 credits including AS91944 - Explore data using a statistical enquiry process and AS91947 - demonstrate mathematical reasoning.

L2 Mathematics with Calculus - achieve 10 credits including AS91947 - Demonstrate mathematical reasoning and AS91945 - Use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific

A laptop for parts of the course, MBC can provide a day loan if necessary.
A textbook will be issued to the student for the year. It is the student's responsibility and must be returned in good condition at the end of the year.
Additional resources are available for an additional charge, these are not compulsory.
Students are to bring all equipment to every lesson.
