Year 9 Mathematics
Course Description
Our junior courses are based on the study of the three strands of Mathematics and Statistics.
• Number and Algebra
• Geometry and Measurement
• Statistics
In studying these strands and the connections between them, students develop the ability to think creatively, critically, strategically, and logically. They learn problem-solving and skills how to interpret and communicate the solutions to these problems.
All of the courses at the junior level prepare the students for further study in the senior school, including the achievement of the numeracy requirements at NCEA Level one. The teaching of these courses incorporates the teaching of the values and key competencies as outlined in the NZ Curriculum.
Homework is in the form of MathSpace tasks and there is an expectation to complete 1 - 1.5 hours weekly.

Assessment Information
E-asTTle is the main platform for testing in Junior Mathematics. Students receive a username and password allowing parents and caregivers to access results at any time. Written tests will feature during the year, end of term one, two, three and four. Numeracy testing will occur three times a year, end of term two, three and four. This is as an online test which will be completed under test conditions in the hall. Progress reports are written at the end of each term and published on the Parent Portal. Mathspace features provide ongoing formative assessment based on student engagement with the program.
