English - Communication Focus

The world relies on communication

This course provides students with a contextualized project-based course for the purpose of achieving NCEA Level 2. This course is tailored for those students who are about to embark on apprenticeships or entering into the work force and require practical correspondence skills: writing formal letters, work place reports, engaging in group tasks and gaining confidence in interviews.

This course does not provide University Entrance Literacy.

Course Overview

Term 1
In the first term, the focus is on working together as a group in a school based context on a project-based task. The purpose of this project will be to use real world examples such as a Year 12 common room or modernisation of the canteen. This term will also focus on the business correspondence standard with the students completing one memorandum and a formal letter to the school focused on the project for this term.

Term 2
Term two is all about oral communication and being confident in workplace discussions and meetings.

Term 3
We continue our business correspondence work plus add a close viewing standard that uses critical thinking and analytical skills.

Term 4
This term we make sure all the 'i's' are dotted and the 't's' are crossed.
