Course Description

This NCEA L3 (curriculum level 8) general Mathematics semester course covers;

Linear programming (internal 3 credits, take-home assignment completed over one week in own time).

Apply linear programming methods in solving problems involves: selecting and using methods, demonstrating knowledge of concepts and terms and communicating using appropriate representations.

Simultaneous equations (internal 3 credits, take-home assignment completed over one week in own time).

Apply systems of simultaneous equations in solving problems involves: selecting and using methods, demonstrating knowledge of concepts and terms and communicating using appropriate representations.

Trigonometry (internal 4 credits, take-home assignment completed over one week in own time).

Apply trigonometric methods in solving problems involves: selecting and using methods, demonstrating knowledge of concepts and terms and communicating using appropriate representations.

Can be taken independently or combined with either MAT3B for a full-year course in UE Mathematics (not endorsable) or MAS3B for a full-year course in UE Mathematics (endorsable).

Recommended Prior Learning

Students require a minimum of 10 Mathematics credits at NCEA L2 including an attempt at the external assessment. 

In order to achieve success at NCEA L3 (curriculum level 8) students need to be present for more than 85% of classes, actively engaged during every lesson and complete between two and three hours of independent study every week.

1J5 5mm quad book (about three for the year)
Scientific calculator
A Graphics Calculator is beneficial but not compulsory.
A textbook will be issued to the student for the year. It is the student's responsibility and must be returned in good condition at the end of the year.
Additional resources are available for an additional charge, these are not compulsory.
Students are to bring all equipment to every lesson.

MAT3A + MAS3B = NCEA L3 Mathematics (UE Mathematics, endorsable).
