Year 9 Te Ao Māori
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Whaea D. Day.
In Te Ao Māori year 9 ākonga / students are introduced to the Māori world through te reo/language, pūrakau/stories and kēmu/games. You will gain basic knowledge of karakia, and everyday words that allow you to create a platform for fundamental conversational skills. This course runs for one term and is not the three term te reo Māori course which you need to take for year 10 reo Māori.
Presenting a mihi is part of the final assessment.
Topics include:
a) Whakaatu - Karakia - Tīmatanga
b) Whakaatu - Karakia - Whakamutunga
c) Korero - Tātai - Whakapapa

Course Overview
Term 1
This course runs for one Term. Ākonga will complete an assessment in the final week which covers:
Whakapapa
Ngā Mihi (greetings)
Ngā Tau (numbers)
Ngā Tae (colours)
Ngā Whīra (feelings)
Tēnei / tēnā / tērā (this / that / that over there)
Te Tau Ihu Iwi and Waka
Karakia
Presenting a mihi is also a part of the final assessment.
