NCEA L2 Career Development

Course Description

This is a Unit Standard course developed to assist students to develop a career interest. Students will undertake work that informs them about health and safety in the workplace, employee rights and responsibilities  as well as giving them skills on how to manage their career.

Students will also receive information and gain credits  can on how to drive safely and in a fuel efficient manner.

They can also select courses or Unit Standards from external providers that match their career interests.

The Career Development Course has been designed for students who want to do Gateway. Gateway students have the opportunity to try a career that matches their interest. Students must complete some compulsory papers before they go on placement. 

Placements are made by the Gateway Coordinator in consultation with the student, the student's caregivers and potential employers. Gateway students are expected to gain 20 credits that relate to their work placement.

This course can also be for students who have an interest in Legal Studies, Travel and Tourism and Consumer law and Financial Capability.


 

Course Overview

Term 1
Complusory Unit Standards. Students who want to be involved in the Gateway programme apply during Term 1 and when they have completed the compulsory standards they will be placed as soon as possible.

Term 2
Students who are on Gateway will be advised of their place in one of the two Health and Safety Courses.
Students in Term 2 students select standards that interest them and are relevant to their career interests.
OR

Students will undertake a driving education programme. Students who do not have a licence will be offered a course to get them in a position to gain their Learners Licence. Those with a licence will be offered standards that are required by insurers of fleet vehicles. ( Standards such as drive in a fuel efficient manner).



Term 3

OR

Students in Term 3 select those standards that interest them and are relevant to their career interests.

Student will work on standards that match their career interest.

Recommended Prior Learning

There is no recommended prior learning. It is recommended that students have Level 1 Literacy.

There are some optional standards that students are expected to make a part payment for.
