NCEA L3 Business Enterprise

Course Description

In Level 3 Business Enterprise students will have the opportunity to set up and run a small business. It is a great opportunity to test your ideas, realise uniqueness, develop strengths, learn about enterprise and possibly make a profit.

At the same time, you will earn a qualification in business practice and gain valuable practical experience.

In Business Enterprise you will work as part of your own company.

Course Overview

Term 1
Throughout terms 1-3 you will work in your business team to plan, carry out and evaluate an innovative and sustainable business activity. You will use the Lean Start-Up approach to planning and carrying out a business activity. This encourages you to take your product to market early and then focus on selling over several months.

The key tasks this term are:
• Planning which will include preparation of a Lean Canvas, delivering a business pitch and submitting a planning portfolio
• Carrying out taking an MVP or prototype to your team’s target market, selling over several months and consultation with specialist advisers

Term 2
During this term you will continue, working in your team, to market and sell your business product or service. During the term you will also have an opportunity to pitch your business ideas to a group of local business people as part of the YES program.

The main tasks this term are:
• selling over several months and consultation with specialist advisers
• preparing and presenting a business pitch
• working on other self-selected achievement standards

Term 3
This term your will wrap up your business idea and have a chance to reflect on the project as you complete an annual review as part of the YES program.

The main tasks this term are:
• concluding your business activity
• preparing an annual review reflecting on the year
• working on other self-selected achievement standards

Those seeking subject endorsement you will also be working on the External exam for AS 91380.

Term 4
This term those seeking subject endorsement will be revising for the external exam.
Students not siting the external will work on another unit standard or achievement standard.

Credit Information

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.

This course is approved for University Entrance.

Total Credits Available: 30 credits.
