Year 9 Aquabots - Karetao Hiko Ruku Wai

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs K. Davis.

NZ Aquabots is an underwater robotics programme where you will collaborate with other students to design and build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) capable of completing set tasks and an obstacle course as quickly as possible. You will learn practical engineering skills including basic electronics as well as investigating the science of floating, sinking and flying. Expect to also hone skills in problem solving, teamwork and communication. 

To be successful in this course you will need good self management skills and be able to work independently to achieve complex outcomes.

 





Course Overview

Term 4
This course cannot run in term 4 as the competitions will have been run before now.

Recommended Prior Learning

You should enjoy collaborating with others and working independently to achieve an outcome. A positive attitude and a willingness to be challenged are definate must haves for this course!

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

The cost of NZAquabot kits are covered by the school. However there may be additional costs if travel is required to compete in a regional or national event. Students may be asked to contribute materials to make modifications to the ROV.

Assessment Information

Assessment for this 1 term course is a combination of Participating and Contributing (teamwork), project work and overall teacher judgement.
