NCEA L2 Te Reo Māori

Course Description

This course is based on Level 7 of Te Aho Arataki Marau mo te Ako I Te Reo Māori. 

In the Level 2 course students will delve into their own iwi history and whakapapa, completing a research project on their ancestors' migration from Hawaiki and settlement of Aotearoa. Students who are not Māori can choose an iwi they are interested in. 

Students will expand on their ability to introduce themselves in formal and informal situations, building on their mihimihi and supporting their kōrero with relevant whakataukī and tauparapara. Students will also build on their conversational language as well as develop their ability to craft longer pieces of writing.  

Kauapapa (themes) include, Hītori a Iwi, Ngā Whakangahau, Te Ao Taiohi, Hākinakina, ANZAC, Matariki, Te Wairau.

Students are also encouraged to take part in special events such as Ngā Manu Kōrero and will learn supporting Haka, Waiata, Karakia & Mōteatea.

Recommended Prior Learning

This course builds on knowledge gained in Level 1 Te Reo Māori so ideally you have attained 12 credits in Level 1 prior to joining this class.
