NCEA L1 Te Reo Māori
Course Description
This course is based on Level 6 of Te Aho Arataki Marau mo te Ako I Te Reo Māori. Students will expand on their ability to introduce themselves in formal and informal situations, building on their mihimihi and supporting their kōrero with relevant whakataukī and tauparapara. Students will also build on their conversational language as well as develop their ability to craft longer pieces of writing.
This course aims to be meet the learning objectives laid out above in the New Zealand curriculum for Te Reo Māori, building on the language skills gained in year 10. A focus on vocabulary and grammar learning is essential. We do this through as many different modes as possible including online games, speaking and listening tasks, reading and writing. A mixture of fun and hard graft!
Kauapapa (themes) include, Te Marae, Te Kāinga, Te Ao Taiohi, Hākinakina, ANZAC, Matariki, Te Wairau.
Students are also encouraged to take part in special events such as Ngā Manu Kōrero and will learn supporting Haka, Waiata, Karakia & Mōteatea.

Recommended Prior Learning
Open Entry, however it is recommended that you have completed Te Reo Māori at year 10.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
Total Credits Available: 30 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 12 credits.
