NCEA L2 - Rugby Academy

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr T. Raeli.

Rugby Academy (RAC) is a practical course for those who aspire to play rugby at a high level, are wanting to improve their skill level and game understanding, and also gain an insight into the demands of a high performance environment. The Semester A course includes the following components:

Rugby Skill Development

Physical Fitness Training

Self Management

Social Responsibility


Course Overview

Term 1
Students will be focusing on AS 91330 which requires them to perform a physical activity in an applied setting. The physical activity will be the game of Turo Touch.

Term 2
They will learn how to analyse and clip their performance using video footage, examine GPS data and review game statistics.

Students will also receive specialist coaching and development on the four pillars of the game related to Mental skills, Physical, Technical and Tactical. Wellbeing and future pathways will also be examined in this course.

Term 3
With the rugby season coming to an end, this term will be focused on completing the remaining standards in RAC.
Assessment
Conduct and review a beginner-level coaching session.
Consistently demonstrate social responsibility in applied physical activity.
Demonstrate knowledge of injuries, injury prevention and risks and hazards with sports and recreation.

Term 4
Finishing off any outstanding written work

Recommended Prior Learning

This course does not require any prior learning but an application process is in place to check your eligibility of gaining entry.

Pathway

This course leads directly into NCEA Level 3 - Rugby Academy 3. Other options are Level 3 Physical Education, Level 3 Sports Studies, Level 3 Outdoor Education, Level 3 Basketball Academy and Level 3 Hono (Dive)
