Course Description

Course Description


The aim of this Graphics class is to look at real world problems and find suitable solutions by using the technology design process.

Students in this subject will be drawing, making models, testing ideas, using 3D printers, evaluating, refining and getting feedback from stakeholders on their solutions to create a final outcome.  If you did the year 9 course then you will develop those skills further. This year you will be focussing more on Spatial design and introduced to further CAD software.


Once we get to year 11 we can move into a multitude of design related subject areas such as Materials Technology, DVC and Furniture.



Design and Visual Communication skills are excellent skills to have and can be used in a variety of careers including many of the Trades, Architecture, Engineering, and Product Design.

Some skills that may be covered include:

  • 3D printing
  • Model making
  • Freehand sketching/crating
  • Linework - weights
  • Forms and Shapes
  • Introduction to rendering
  • Instrumental drawing 
  • Accurate instrumental drawing
  • Exploded View
  • Introduction to one a two-point perspective 
  • Rendering -  Shading, shadows, and textures
  • Light and dark. Tonal change.
  • Different Media and Modes
  • Introduction to Sketchup, Tinkercad and ArchiCAD.
  • And other cool design equipment.

Course Overview

Term 1
You will begin to understand the language and purpose of Graphics (DVC) and start to develop freehand sketching and instrumental drawing skills.
You will develop your design and obtain stakeholder feedback to inform your next decisions. You will begin to see the importance of the Design Process as you head towards the completion of your Shipping Container home. Modelling, architectural drawings and floor plans will be produced by you.

Each student will be expected to provide the following:
• Pencils,
• Eraser,
• Rule,
• Accurate compass,
• Access to a laptop,
• Creativity.
