ENG2N

NCEA L2 English - Now that's what I call music!

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms J. McLeod.

Now That’s What I Call Music

If you love listening to, dissecting and critiquing music (and the artists who make it) this is the course for you.

Think reading and writing album reviews; examining current issues such as streaming and copyright in music; considering what we do with the art that is made by problematic artists; and of course, keeping an eye on the release radar over the year.

This course includes University Entrance Literacy Assessment Standards.

Course Overview

Term 1
We will begin by examining our relationship with music and learning strategies for describing and analysing it in our writing. Then you will choose a current issue in the music industry to research for the information literacy standard.
Information literacy and writing portfolio

Term 2
We will continue to develop our writing by examining an artist and how their work has influenced wider culture. Next, it will be time to refresh our knowledge of film techniques to expertly analyse a music video of your choice.
Close Viewing and Writing Portfolio

Term 3
Using our fresh knowledge of film techniques, we will be studying a film for the visual text external and revising for Unfamiliar Text (we will be developing our skills for this over the course of the year). Writing Portfolio will also be refined for hand-in.
Visual Text, Unfamiliar Text, Writing Portfolio

Term 4
Revision for our external assessments.
