NCEA L2 Construction

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr J. McLean

Construction teaches you good, basic skills required in the Construction industry of today. You will be taking industry based standards that will hold you in good stead for getting an apprenticeship.

Projects are designed around the skills that you need to acquire and the tools and machinery that you master.

Course Overview

Term 1
In Term 1, you will start learning about power tools. Your projects will be based around the usage of these machines whether hand held or fixed.
You will then start thinking about what type of Garden Furniture you would like to design in preparation for construction in Term 2.
You will be following the design process of research through to final product as you progress through this course.

Term 2
In Term 2, you will start to construct your own garden furniture. This is tied in with the US12932. This standard is evidence based.

Term 3
The idea of this course is that it prepares you for a career outside school. This ties in with the BCATS Industries unit standard. So in this term, you will be continuing with your project but will also be gaining a wider understanding of the relevance of the skills that you will be acquiring.

Term 4
Term 4 is really concerned with completing projects. Should you be ahead of the game, you will be tasked with further projects to expand your skills and knowledge.
