Course Description

Level 2 Photography - PHT2
This is a full year course and is NCEA List A approved.
It provides skills and understanding suitable for Level 2 Photography and as a precursor for Level 3.
To endorse in Photography, students must complete the 12-credit portfolio.
Introduction to the course includes the development of skills in photography and art thinking. Students are encouraged to draw from their environment and make artworks recognizing the conventions used in photographic practice. Use of studio lighting, time lapse and various indoor and outdoor photoshoots is expected.
Additionally, a research project with L1 Literacy credits attached, may be completed. All developing skills lead towards the 12 credit folio.
The two panel folio (12 credits) is an External standard thus course endorsement is available.
Course Overview
Term 1
All standards build the understanding needed for completion of the External submission - Level 2 PHOTOGRAPHY portfolio (12 credits).
These two standards will be completed late in Term 1 or early in Term 2.
A.S.91307 - 2.1 - Internal - 4 credits
A.S.91312 - 2.2 - Internal - 4 credits
Term 2
These two standards will be completed late in Term 1 or early in Term 2.
A.S.91307 - 2.1 - Internal - 4 credits

These two standards will start in Term 2 and run parallel with each other. They are both due for completion in Term 4, Week 2.
A.S.91317 - 2.3 - Internal - 4 credits
A.S.91322 - 2.4 - External - 12 credits - This is a two-panel portfolio. Term 4
These two standards are both due for completion in Term 4, Week 2. Students must successfully complete the 12-credit folio (2.4) to enable course endorsement.
Term 3
These two standards started in Term 2 and continue in Term 3. They are both due for completion in Term 4, Week 2.

A.S.91322 - 2.4 - External - 12 credits - This is a two-panel portfolio.
Students must successfully complete the 12-credit folio (2.4) to enable course endorsement.
Term 4
These two standards are both due for completion in Term 4, Week 2.

Semester A
Semester A (PHT2A)
– Internals only (2.2 - 4 credits, 2.3 - 4 credits) will be offered. A research standard (2.1 - 4 credits) may be offered.
This is available as a 'taster course' or as a gateway to folio and Level 3 Visual Arts courses.
Students who wish to complete the external 12-credit folio (2.4) will need to also select Semester B. (PHT2B)
This allows for course endorsement.
Recommended Prior Learning
This course is open entry. However, some level of understanding or experience about Art or Digital Technology would be an advantage.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Contribution to the take-home component of this course is expected. The specialist paper, printing costs and cardboards for folio is part of this.
Pathway
Students in Level 2 may take more than one of the Visual Arts; Painting, Design, Photography

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
