NCEA L3 Physical Education
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr J. Harrison.
This course includes both theory and practical elements. It will suit students interested in sport, wanting to study sport further, or moving into a sport based career.
-Hauora/wellbeing - Looking at how yours or others well-being can be affected using the Te where Tapa Whā model. You will reflect on how Physical Active has impacted your well-being
-Skill Acquisition and Sports Psychology - This is a career that every professional sports team or individual has. We look at how the mind plays big part in everything we do.
-Exercise Physiology - Looking at body's responses to physical activity. How the body adapts to physical activity over time? How can we train in the most effective way?
-Biomechanical Analysis - analyzing our movements using video. From there we investigate ways we can be more effective during exercise and sports movement
-Volleyball in conjunction with theory work.
-Mountain Biking Camp - Investigate/Plan the Health and Safety requirements for Mountain Biking on the Queen Charlotte track.
There is the option to do Achievement Standard As 3.5 which looks at an issue in Sport. This standard allows you to achieve 4 reading credits for literacy.

Term 1
3.7 Risk Assessment Based using Mountain Biking as the skill.
Mountain Biking Camp - Investigate/Plan the Health and Safety requirements for Mountain Biking on the Queen Charlotte track.

Term 2
3.1 Looking at the impact of Physical Activity on your Hauora (well-being)
Who has influence or enabled you to get active in your life, what barriers or challenges have you overcome?
3.2 Biomechanical Analysis - analyzing our movements using video. From there we investigate ways we can be more effective during exercise and sports movement
You will select a skill that interests you and compare yourself to an expert.
Term 3
3.3. Using Volleyball we will get a better understanding of how to train.

Recommended Prior Learning
It would be an advantage, but not required, if you have taken PED2. Some of the knowledge in this course builds from PED2
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
There is an opportunity to take part in a Mountain Biking camp in Term 1. This will be based on the Queen Charlotte Track where you can practice your Mountain Biking skills in a practical setting. There may be a small cost to this camp.

Assessment for this course consist of both practical and written assessment. All internally assessed Achievement standards (online).Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.

Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
