NCEA L2 & 3 Hono - Connect Dive Advanced (Either Semester)

Course Description

Hono (Connect) is a course based around the ocean, boating and diving. The purpose of this course is around connection. Connection to the ocean, connection to important areas in Marlborough, connection with traditional ways to harvest and prepare Kai Moana, connection with whānau and the community and connection with local industry groups.

Hono (Dive) Advanced is a Level 2 and/or 3 course suited to those who have a passion for the water. This Advanced course is for students who already hold an entry level dive certificate such as their PADI SCUBA Open Water Certificate or PADI Freedive Certificate. If you have already taken Hono last year and wish to continue your diving, boat safety and aquaculture industry pathway then this is the course for you. If you have not taken Hono yet but already hold a basic dive certificate then this could also be the course for you. 

If this subject is chosen, students will be working toward either their PADI SCUBA Advanced Dive Certificate or their PADI Freedive Advanced Certificate with Bryan from the Blenheim Dive Centre. 

As well as their advanced dive certificate, students will also be doing some work with the NZ Coast Guard, Either their Day Skippers Certificate (if they do not hold one yet) or their Boat Masters Certificate which is a step on from the Day Skippers Qualification. 

This class will have a mixture of hands on, practical learning, both pool and open water diving as well as class based lessons. 

If you love the ocean, diving and boating and wish to push past the basic dive qualifications then this is the course for you.

Recommended Prior Learning

Students do not need to have taken Hono before but do require a basic dive certificate, either their

-PADI SCUBA Open Water Certificate or

-PADI Freedive Certificate

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Boys and families will have to pay for their chosen dive certificate. The SCUBA Advanced course is $800 and the Freedive Advanced course $625. There will also be a charge to cover costs of the dive trips such as boat fuel etc. This cost will be around $100. Other costs of the course will try to be covered internally.
