NCEA L2 Construction
Course Description
Studying construction equips you with essential foundational skills necessary in today's construction industry. The course emphasizes industry-standard practices that enhance your readiness for securing an apprenticeship.
Projects are structured to focus on acquiring necessary skills and mastering the tools and machinery relevant to the field.
Course Overview
Term 1
In Term 1, you will start learning about power tools. Your projects will be based around the usage of these machines whether hand held or fixed.
You will then start thinking about what type of Garden Furniture you would like to design in preparation for construction in Term 2.
You will be following the design process of research through to final product as you progress through this course.
Term 2
In Term 2, you will start to construct your own garden furniture. This is tied in with the US12932. This standard is evidence based.
Term 3
The idea of this course is that it prepares you for a career outside school. This ties in with the BCATS Industries unit standard. So in this term, you will be continuing with your project but will also be gaining a wider understanding of the relevance of the skills that you will be acquiring.
Term 4
Term 4 is really concerned with completing projects. Should you be ahead of the game, you will be tasked with further projects to expand your skills and knowledge.
Recommended Prior Learning
If you have attained NCEA Level 1 in either Furniture or Technology, you are well-positioned to excel in this course. The industry values dedicated and enthusiastic tradespeople. Thus, these are the attributes we prioritize in our Construction Level 2 classes.
