REO010

Year 10 Te Reo Māori

Course Description

Nau Mai, Haere Mai!

This course is for students to take their reo to the next level! Students are able to join without having taken Year 9 Te Reo Māori, as we operate under the tikanga of tuakana/teina (the more experienced support the less experienced).

Students will learn conversational language as well as begin to unravel the formal language associated with whaikōrero, mihimihi and other speeches. Topics include; the home, school, sports, the marae as well as the tikanga associated with events at the marae, history, our connections to the pacific & Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Kapa Haka is also developed in the course, building towards students having a key role at prize giving and end of year celebrations. This builds student confidence and pride in their culture and performances.

This is a full-year course and is focused on preparing students for Level 1 NCEA Te Reo Maori in the following year.
