NCEA L1 Physical Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr H. McKerrow.

This course is an introduction to senior Physical Education and is a mix of practical (70%) and theory (30%) work.  

We complete 4 Achievement Standards which focus on a range of topics:

- Practical movement strategies

- Strategies that promote Interpersonal skills and Kotahitanga

- Influences on effort and participation in relation to Hauora (Wellbeing)

- Sport Science and it's influences on movement within Aotearoa and the Pacific

We have tried to make this course as practical as possible with the majority of theory being taught through a practical context to ensure we maintain a focus on academic achievement. Based on student numbers and results, this is one of the most successful and enjoyable courses in the school.

Recommended Prior Learning

This course leads perfectly into Level 2 Physical Education, Level 2 Sport Studies, Level 2 Outdoor Education, Level 2 Basketball Academy, Level 2 Rugby Academy and Level 2 Hono (Dive)

Two internally assessed Achievement Standards that are assessed through teacher observation and student reflection. These are marked internally.

Two externally assessed Achievement Standards that are assessed through teacher observation, student reflection, and a written report. These are marked externally.

Credit Information

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
