Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

Unless you have the approval of Head of Department, only students who have done Semester 1 may do Semester 2. However, experience and skills from Level 1 Art or DTY, DGR or Media are an advantage. 


Level 2 Photography - Semester B  (Code: PHT2B)                                                                                                                                                          

 - This option is only available for students who have completed Semester A (Code: PHT2A) and leads to UE Approved, Level 3 Visual Arts courses. It allows for subject endorsement.

This is a semesterised course designed for students interested in developing their ideas using a camera.

Students choose their own theme. They develop their ideas by creating a series of photographs within their preferred area of interest. Students are expected to show extension of photography skills and art thinking. They will be shown how to draw from their environment and make artworks recognizing the conventions used in photographic practice. Use of studio lighting, time lapse and various indoor and outdoor photoshoots is expected. 

The two panel folio (12 credits) is only available in Semester 2 (Code: PHT2B).

Semester B
– Internals only (2.2 - 4 credits, 2.5 - 4 credits) unless already completed Semester A or, if Semester A is already completed, 2.4 (External =Folio - 12 credits) & 2.5 (Internal - 4 credits)

Students who wish to complete the 12-credit folio (2.4) will need to also select Semester A (PHT2A)
This allows for course endorsement.
