Course Description

This is a one semester course designed to investigate the principles of investing.

Whether investing just for yourself or you want to follow a career offering financial advice this course will investigate the challenges, opportunities and principle that exist when looking at investment other than in term deposits or fixed interest bonds.

We will take the time to research the financial services sector in New Zealand and a number of disrupters in the market like Sharesies and Hatch. We will look at the career path of some Marlborough Boys College alumni that are involved in the development of Sharesies and investing with the New Zealand Super Fund.

Semester A
During the semester we will
- investigate the external impacts that can affect personal finances and investments.
- research the principles of risk and return involved in investing
- develop a personal plan for a long-term financial investment portfolio
