NCEA L2 & 3 Hono - Connect Dive (Either Semester)

HON2C
Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

No prior learning required but an enthusiasm for the ocean, diving and boating would be helpful

Hono (Connect) is a course based around the ocean, boating and diving. The purpose of this course is around connection. Connection to the ocean, connection to important areas in Marlborough, connection with traditional ways to harvest and prepare Kai Moana, connection with whānau and the community and connection with local industry groups.

If selecting this Semester A or B course, you will complete 2 compulsory units. One around harvesting and preparing Kai Moana and the other around the safe use of boats. You will also have the opportunity to work with the Blenheim Dive Centre and gain either your PADI open water SCUBA (tanks) dive certificate or your PADI free dive certificate.

We will be trying to make this course as hands on as possible and there will be a mixture of class based learning, dive work in the stadium pool, boat trips in the sounds and open water diving.

We will also be working with industry groups such as Marine Farming Industry to learn how their industry runs. There may be further opportunities in these industries if students want to pursue.
