Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

This course is open entry. However, some level of experience or understanding about Art or Digital Technology would be an advantage. 

 


Level 2 DESIGN -

Level 2 Design is now a full year course. Students will develop a wide range of skills in graphic art design. Digital art opportunities work alongside the traditional paper based artworks. 

There are 5 achievement standards with a total of 28 credits available.

This is a course designed for students interested in developing Design skills in a visual format. Students will work to develop the ability to process ideas as a designer. Design thinking provides a structured process that helps innovators break free of counterproductive tendencies that thwart innovation. 

  • Freehand and digital drawing skills
  • Finishing tools including Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) 
  • Graphic design processes 
  • Basic photography
  • Research & Design Principles
  • Layout and composition
     Level 2 Design (2.2) - Design a front cover for your own magazine.

   2022 - Design folios in a student exhibition at the Millennium Gallery.

Course Overview

Semester A
Level 2 Design - Semester A (DES2A) – 12 credits are available from 3 internal standards
2.1 - 4 credits,
2.2 - 4 credits,
2.3 - 4 credits

This is available as a 'taster course' in the Visual Arts or as a gateway to folio and Level 3 Visual Arts courses.

Students who wish to complete the 12-credit folio (2.4) MUST also select Semester B. (DES2B)
This enables the possibility of course endorsement.

Design and Photography courses are complementary; they go well together. At levels 2 & 3 you may take more than one or two visual arts courses.
