Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss R. Kane
Students who are interested in the production of grapes and viticulture will benefit from this course. They will be expected to participate in a vintage. Students will continue to build on their Health and Safety knowledge. They will also continue to learn about the growth and management practices of grape growing as well as the factors that can affect the profit from grapes.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students will begin by investigating the effects trellis can have on the ripening brix levels in grapes. Before students head on a vintage, they will complete a Confined Spaces certificate.
Term 2
Students will look at the factors that affect profit of grape growers and how the management practices of vineyards produce a quality grape. Students will visit a vineyard and learn how to prune grapevines.
Term 3
Students will look at health and safety aspects. They will also continue with learning about the grapevine structure and lifecycle and how management practices allow us to meet contract requirements.
Recommended Prior Learning
No prior learning is required but an interest in Wine Production would be beneficial.

Students will need a 1B5 book.
