WAH2A

NCEA L2 Te Waharoa A

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Matua B. Christian

This course provides a Matauranga Māori focus for learners. It is ideal for students who have an interest in Kapa Haka and Maori culture. The course has a strong local curriculum focus and involves collaborations with our local iwi and community organisations such as The Blenheim Dive Centre. Students will have the opportunity to visit local sites of significance (including wāhi tapu) with local iwi, dive for paua, kina and kōura (crayfish) in Tōtaranui (Queen Charlotte Sound) and learn how to prepare traditional kai. Students will also learn haka, waiata and mōteatea, carving traditions and explore their own whakapapa and iwi history. Pacific migration traditions are also taught, emphasising the connection with Te Pokohiwi a Kupe.
