Course Description

The aim of this term length course is to act as an introduction to Technology. You will use a variety of materials and techniques to make 2 projects which will be assessed.

Technology will give you the opportunity to work with Wood, Plastic, Metal and Electromagnetic forces for the production of your 2 outcomes. You will learn how these materials can be shaped, formed, joined and finished to produce items of high quality. 

Course Overview

Term 1
You will make two projects this term; the first being a Watchman's Rattle, the second being an Electromagnetic Motor.
These are the skills and knowledge that you will acquire through working on these two projects.
• Tools identification and uses:
o Tenon saw
o Bandsaw
o Drill press
o rule
o square
o pencil

• Materials awareness:
o Different woods
o Plastics

• Skills:
o Measuring.
o Marking out.
o Choosing and using the correct tool for the job.

• Quality of finish.

• Accuracy of construction.
• Tools identification and uses:
o Belt sander
o rule
o square
o tin snips
o electric hand drill

• Materials awareness:
o Copper – wire and sheet

• What is electricity?

• What is an electromagnetic force?
