Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss R. Kane
In this course you will learn the requirements for safe work practices as well as an outline of the forest industry in New Zealand. There are rules regarding working in forestry and you will become familiar with them.
You will also learn about the importance of the physical well being of primary industry workers.
Chainsaws are a vital tool for foresters. You will learn how to use them safely.
Finally, you will leave the course knowing how commercial forestry works.
Course Overview
Semester A
Students will look at the hydration, nutrition and sleep requirements for well-being in a Primary Industry worker. They will also look at the general health, safety and environmental requirements in Forestry including operating a chainsaw safely.
Recommended Prior Learning
No prior learning is required, but an interest in Forsestry and a willingness for physical work would help.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Students will require a 1B5 book.
