Course Description

Our Rangitahi need knowledge and skills to help them make good money decisions at each life stage.
Accounting helps them to do this and enables students to develop financial capability skills to manage the financial affairs of individuals, communities and businesses. These are all useful skills not just for those wishing to follow a traditional accounting career but also for the self-employed or those wanting to become a business manager.
In Level 1 Accounting students will develop the knowledge to manage the financial affairs of individuals, whanau, community organisations and local small or medium entities, while acting with integrity.
The course covers:
- Individuals/Households - managing personal finances, budgeting, bank records and reconciliation statements, explaining documents used in financial transactions, calculation of financial position and investigating cash controls used
- Businesses – processing financial data, preparation of financial statements, analysis and interpretation of financial reports, making informed financial decisions and developing business skills for individuals, businesses and community organisations
Course Overview
Semester A
In Semester A we look at financial decision making, cash management and accounting for community organisations
Semester B
In Semester B we look at the accounting concepts and analysis of financial information as we work towards the NCEA external exams
